Walter de’Silva is an Italian car designer who is currently Chief Designer of the Audi Brand Group of Audi Ag. He is responsible for oversight on the design of all Volkswagen Group passenger car brands including Audi, Volkswagen, SEAT, Škoda as well as Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti.
He started his career at the age of 21 when he gave up studying architecture in order to become a car designer joining Fiat as junior designer in 1972. De Silva has also worked as a designer at I.DE.A Institute, and as head of design for Alfa Romeo.
In 1999, he was put in charge of the SEAT Design Centre, since March 2002 he has been responsible for the entire Audi brand group’s design requirements.
DeSilva has won numerous awards for his models including the Red dot design award, Autonis award, 'The World's Most Beautiful Automobile 2004’ award in Milan for Audi A6 and the Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster and Germany’s most important design award, the ‘Designpreis der Bundesrepublik Deutschland 2010’ for the Audi A5....
